I can't make it. I'm at 1/4 tank in the Elantra (which isn't in this competition anyway) and 1/2 tank in the Insight.
The problem is that I'm putting on so few miles I'm in danger of appearing to be a "one tank wonder" guy.
Man, I wish I had that problem! Not sure if I'll be in the next challenge or not, a quarter off might do me well. Plus I have a thesis to write by September.\ EDIT : Eh, what the hell, it's less fun with less people... Shall I go ahead and make the signup thread for FE14, or would you like the honors again, champion Andrew?
True, Sean. There's a difference in your case - we know you're legitimately using that little fuel and your car can go that many miles between fills.
No milk today... No commute this week... No fill-up this week... I let the car @ airport this morning before sunrise, and I'll take it back Friday just before sunset The current tank seams to be on the track of a good tank, but this morning I had to go over PSL despite a problem on the road, then on the entries of 2 parking lots, I wasn't the last to get into the plane, as one guy followed me I "failed" a part of my FE13. Congrats to Andrew for POE, Mike for MPG and Sean to not have filled up at least once Let's go on the FE14 road... Despite the missing back on megane and its overheating momentary problems (current temps in France is over 100F ), I'm motivated to beat all my records (1184mi) and reach all my objectives (1247mi then 1321mi). Before all, have fun Denis.
Okay, I'm in! Just made my one and only fill at 65mpg which gives me an adjusted EPA of 245.3%. Just kidding! I didn't enter the Challenge knowing I wanted to drive my wife's '11 Explorer any chance I got. Also, I left 20 miles of E10 in my FEH tank to finish Challenge 12 with 2 fills. Love driving the new Explorer but Rhonda wasn't happy when I called her to tell her I was the second driver to hit the same deer on the Interstate. Front bumper and the rear tire spoiler was damaged and I don't know yet what else is damaged under the Explorer. It was pitch dark in the middle of know where on I-49 outside of Lafayette Louisiana. Added my final tanks for this quarter. GaryG, if you are going to be driving around in deer country, you need to add a low, sloped nose to your Explorer. Instead of absorbing the energy of deer impact like a flat bumper does, the low sloped nose redirects that energy upwards, sending the deer up over the top of your vehicle with minimal damage to the vehicle. I've hit 2 deer at 45mph since aeromodding my car, sending both skywards with just a few dents left in the nose and hood, and in one case, cracking a headlight lens. Of course, any tailgaters might get a surprise. In addition to deer protection, the low, sloped nose improves the gas mileage.
Gary, ugh!! Sorry about the Explorer. Closing this competition tank: This tank lasted from June 3 to June 29 :woot: 10.107 Gallons 621 miles 61.443 MPG! :Banane08: I realized when I stopped reporting my daily mileage log (notice?) I became less stressed because I was not paying too much attention on individual than the whole picture. More relaxed, more fluid in how I hypermile.
I haven't made the claim yet because I've been real busy and I wanted to see if any drivetrain or steering issues show up. The Explorer seems to have held together rather well for running completely over the deer with both the right front and right rear wheels. Under hard acceleration I am seeing the steering wheel pull to the right in 1st gear and then to the left when it changes to 2nd gear. I never accelerated that hard before I hit the deer so I don't know if it's normal. That V6 in that low 1st gear pulls that Explorer off the line like I never expected and hitting 2nd at that high of RPM could be the answer to the steering wheel pull. The ride and handling seems to be just as incredible as it was before the accident, so I'm not worried about that. Thanks for everyone's concern and I'll write a full report after the repair. GaryG
Are all tanks in? I have a screen shot of the current standings that I can use to replace the current standings so they will be forever preserved when we are ready to call it!
Sorry for the delay, all logs can be recycled now! Screen shot has been placed on front page (sans groar's average ) Excellent stuff, everyone! And congrats to our winners, you have bragging rights for the next 3 months! Sign up for FE 14 if you haven't already, you have until the end of July.
