A beautiful spring day so far. Wunderground said winds of 10-15 MPH from the NE , which
would be a headwind for me , but I felt no wind from my seat , except for a little tailwind.
48 deg F in Naperville , 47 in Wood Dale , and 42 in Toronto.
    Short , no highway route today : 16.3 miles , 70.9 MPG.

    I'll take it.

Today , I was reminded about why they call this the "Windy City "
Wunderground said ( and my fcd confirms ) the wind is coming from NNE
at 20-30 MPH , with gusts up to 40 MPH. My inbound trip is north and east.
So even though it wasn't cold ( 38 F ) the Prius struggled.
    35.1 miles , 48.9 MPG.

On the climbs did you also have to use the turbo more?

Heard snow was coming late tonite(now last night), so I went for an early drive & got some gasoline. On the way home tho, I encountered intermittent snowflakes, which more of them, may have been the cause of two very bad accidents, one deadly. I had avoided one accident, because I'd taken another route. But, I did come upon the deadly accident that must have occurred maybe 10 minutes before.
Besides the two bad accidents that had occurred within 4 miles of each other, were 28 other incidences (hopefully only) around the eastern Salish Sea(Puget Sound) area. Deeper snow in the mountains closed Stevens Pass to eastern Washington, with many miles of highway closed because of snow-burdened trees falling across the road.

Filled up yesterday. Miserable result. 44.4 mpg. Almost my lowest ever, and the only lower one was all highway in winter.

I think the tires are breaking in a little so maybe there's hope.

    48.7 / 11.4 this morning, 38F

It's also the middle of winter. This is the time of year when
I get discouraged. No matter what I do , the results suck compared to summer.

Yes, I think so, although I was not looking at the turbo indicator. I was familiar with seeing this type of mpg disparity with our 2015 Prius although the difference would be bigger. Some trips would be 65 mpg in one direction and 45 mpg in the other. I think the elevation change is about 1200 ft

Some people might wonder why the MPG is so different........ until they pushed their "engine-off" car a quarter mile downhill:D, then tried to push their car a quarter mile uphill.

It can be even worse. For me, I could do a 20 miles/kWh in one direction and 3.5 miles/kWh in the other. That's 650+ MPGe vs 115+ MPGe.

I bet the huffs & puffs are even more disparate, after physically pushing downhill:D & uphill.:oops:

Bet the MPG difference downhill & uphill for an 800+HP Challenger Demon is narrower.
Who would have thought a 707 HP Challenger Hell Cat is slumming..... & so quickly!

After a week of not driving my car, on Sunday morning went to seaside 4UP plus dog, mainly crosswind SSW11, 46°F, started with Range 70 so drove most of way there and filled up at a much cheaper gas station:
    47.3 / 52.1

    LFL @ 556 miles

    Tank Stats

    Miles on tank: 604.6
    GallsUS: 13.029
    Calc. MPG : 46.4 MPG
Calc. Range: 25.7 miles (allowing for extra in tank)
    FCD Range: 10
    FCD MPG : 49.04 MPG (5.69% over-report)
    UG MPG : 45.42 MPG (2.12% under-report)
    No. of trips: 22
    Average trip length: 27.5
    Average speed 32mph
Driving time on tank: 18hrs 42mins
    Days since last fill: 29
    Commuting: 21.9%
    Ave. Temperature: 44.5°F
Ave. no. of people in car: 2.2
    Pmpg for the tank: 101.9

I'm sticking with 5.25% FCD over-report for tank #60 - I'll adjust the indicated numbers down by that for new tank.

Gas station to car park at seaside:
    44.5 / 6.6

Going back home in the afternoon, 4UP, mostly headwind WSW12, 53°F:
    44.4 / 58.6

Yesterday morning, motorway route, 2UP, crosswind S10, 42°F:
    44.9 / 22.7

Going home was horrible, detour #2, 2UP, heavy rain and strong crosswind S21, 46°F:
    35.3 / 20.6

    This morning, motorway route, 2UP, 42°F, cross/headwind SSW12:
    45.8 / 22.6

    New tank @ 42.8 (FCD 45.0) over 131.1 miles . Range 525 . Guess gauge F««««|««««E . UG at 44.4 / DTE 469

Today , 30 deg F in Naperville and Wood Dale. I got stopped by a freight train
for about five minutes , so I drove like a crazy man to get to work on time.
Throwing all caution and propriety to the winds , I hit speeds as high as 57 MPH on level ground.
    35.1 miles , 57.0 MPG. Tank is at 503.3 miles , 61 remaining , 58.4 MPG.

Today , colder ,headwind. But I came from Lombard , not Aurora , so no highway (or $0.95 toll) and
a shorter trip. 21 deg F in Wood Dale , 34 in Toronto.
    16.3 miles , 59.4 MPG. Tank is at 535.2 miles , 22 remaining ,58.3 MPG.
Last pip started flashing at 530.6 miles. It's about 25 miles to my
Amoco station in Naperville , with a 75 min stop at health club in between.
No problem. Last fill was Jan 7.
