    Whether you sit on the right or the left, there is one thing you have to admit. Poor people in the US have it pretty good. Almost all of them have a roof over their heads, food on the table, electricity, cars, telephones, TV's...

    Obviously non of the bleeding heart liberals here have ever had to deal with one of these people as an employee. I have one right now a single mom, I'm positive is getting Section eight housing and food stamps. She goes on and on about the big check her babies daddy gives her every month but never says how much. Anyone who has ever paid child support or knows someone who does knows how that game is played, and what the real amounts in those checks are.

    When I hired her she wanted full time but I only had one PT position available twenty five hours a week. Well I had a full time position open up in October and she will not work over 25 hours a week and finds new and creative ways to weasel out of work a hour here an hour there early or calls off sick.

    All I can figure is she has to watch her income so she doesn't lose all the free bees she is getting off the state. The look on her face when she got her last paycheck said it all. It was a really nice check and I don't think she wants paychecks that high. She worked full time and made some really nice commissions over those two weeks before Christmas.

    Anyway I'm going to have to hire another employee in the next two or three months because this one doesn't want to work. She is already hinting about looking for another job and leaving. She told me a week or two ago she never stays past a year at any job she has had. 40 year old single mom with a twelve year old, who's at easily 100 to 125lbs over weight is not in a good situation looking for employment in this economy. She is a very nice person and very pleasant but still where do people get this I'll skate through life attitude on someone else's buck.

    I have encountered the exact same thing. They ask for more hours, but when you give them the extra hours, they rarely show up. They will show up late, and beg to leave early. I even had one employee bring in a doctor's note that said she can't work Wednesdays... WTF? Eventually, I have to fire them because they're not reliable workers. I feel bad about it, but I'm running a business. I tell my customers we're open at 7am. The customers don't care - they just want someone at the counter to help them at 7.

    both my parents were born during the Great Depression, both were staunch republicans and both made every penny squeal.

    VA makes a 12% sales tax and then everyone makes big purchases on-line from another state and avoids the 12% and brick and mortar stores in VA lose sales. But that is the direction already with no need for physical stores. I buy most things on-line.

    CO tries to collect that tax from on-line purchases but I don't see it being collected, I haven't paid any. It's the law but tax that no one pays.

    High state sales tax is currently easy to avoid.

    Worthywads, you should have heard the squealing last year when the state nailed thousands of smokers who were buying cigarettes on line. One woman I know got a $1,500 tax bill for for the unpaid tobacco taxes on the cigarettes she purchased.

    Hey I buy on line because it is more convenient, and here in Pa. Amazon collects the sales taxes for the state.
