Yes it was. And I'm sure we were exceeding that. Dangerous crazy drivers we are!
2012 Camry Hybrid Towing Capacity?
I've seen some reports that the late model camry hybrids were rated to tow 1000 lbs., but have not seen anything on this from official Toyota sources.
Does anyone have the specs on the 2012 camry hybrid as far as towing capacity goes?
It is indeed $25,900.
Carcus, I am in AL right now and my press docs are in IL. IIRC, it was 1,000 pounds but let me make sure. I have a call into my son to run through the various pdf's to make sure it was listed.
With a decent sized footprint and 200 ish hp I'm thinking a lightweight aluminum trailer could turn the Camry Hybrid into a decent 'pickup' when needed. Most of the loads I carry don't amount to more than 1,000 lbs. Although actually, I think the aero drag matters more than the weight when it comes to wear and tear with towing, but I wouldn't want to end up on the wrong side of a warranty claim with Toyota.
I haven't been in to Suncadia Resort. But you went to Cicely Alaska (Northern Exposure) and didn't even mention it or seeing 'Roslyn's' Cafe?
To bad an ex-carpool partner had to trade in an old but still very serviceable Camry five months ago due to declining ability to operate the clutch. She loves her new Prius, but I think she'd have liked this Camry better if she could have waited.
PS. OK, now I see the picture in the other thread.
I saw the first of these in the wild yesterday. It had the HSD badge on the back, too! That's telling, isn't it - the first new Camry I saw was a hybrid.
Here you go:
The 2012 TCH at the Roslyn Cafe.
The IIHS results are in and the 2012 Toyota Camry is now a "Top Safety Pick", its first ever. Last year, the Camry missed the mark because of a marginal rating for seat/head restraints but for 2012, top marks were the result.
I am sad. I was following a new Camry at lunch today. I see that Toyota has caught a disease from Mazda.
My wife I decided on a 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE this spring. We are in Canada and you only get 2-3 trim level choices. We opted for the fully loaded XLE with leather . We have put 5000miles on the car so far and our average mileage has been 45 MPG (Imperial). Quite impressive when you consider the car is quite large and extreamly comfortable. We just did a slower country road trip on the weekend and averaged 50 MPG over 300 miles.
Not bad, not bad at all
On Tuesday Toyota reported it has sold more than 10 million Camry’s in the US which represents nearly 20 percent of all the vehicles it has ever sold in country. This milestone comes the same year Camry celebrates its 30 year anniversary in the U.S.
Toyota’s first generation Camry was introduced to the U.S. market in 1983. In its first full year of sales, Camry sold 52,651 vehicles. Three decades later, Toyota says 773 of those Camry’s are still in operation!
Toyota brought Camry production to its plant in Georgetown, Ky. in May of 1988, marking the company’s early commitment to investment in North America. In October 2006, the first Camry hybrid was produced, strengthening Toyota’s hybrid leadership position in the U.S.
Overall, there are approximately 6.4 million Camry’s on the road, further echoing the quality, reliability and durability still represented by Camry seven generations down the line.
In this year’s J.D. Power and Associates 2013 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the Camry was ranked the number one midsize car for lowest number of defects.
Today Camry is also the most American made car with 75 percent of its content sourced domestically, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Today, virtually all Camry’s sold in the U.S. are produced in the U.S.
Really nothing new in the Camry for the 2014 MY update. As soon as I see a pricing detail, I will post that.
The Toyota Camry has been America’s best-selling car for 15 of the past 16 years by. The new-generation model added a bolder, more sophisticated design into the mix when it debuted for 2012. For 2014, the Camry continues with that appeal, while the Camry Hybrid, which is EPA-rated at 43 city MPG, exemplifies the brand’s worldwide leadership in hybrid vehicle technology and sales.
Introduced in 1983, the Toyota Camry would establish the template for the modern midsize sedan, setting benchmarks for quality, dependability and reliability (QDR), along with a comfortable, quiet ride. The Camry passed the 10 millionth sold in the U.S. in June 2013. The 2014 model year also marks Camry’s 30th anniversary in the Toyota U.S. lineup.
Camry Hybrid Performance and Efficiency
With its Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain, the 2014 Camry Hybrid LE is rated by the EPA with 43 mpg city/39 mpg highway/41 mpg combined fuel economy. An EV Drive mode allows the driver, under certain conditions, to operate the Camry Hybrid solely on the electric motor for up to 1.6 miles at lower speeds (below approximately 25 mph). A driver-selectable ECO mode optimizes throttle response and air conditioning output to help prioritize maximum fuel economy. The 2014 Camry Hybrid meets AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology Partial-credit Zero Emissions Vehicle) standards.
Through its unique transaxle, the Hybrid Synergy Drive system combines output from the Atkinsonized 2.5L I4 and a small high-torque electric motor.
The system continues to produce a combined 200 hp and varies power with a blast to 60 being accomplished in just 7,6 seconds. Lower rolling resistance tires, also help boost fuel economy.
The Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system on the intake camshaft enhances torque. An electric water pump, a roller-rocker type valvetrain and a variable-output oil pump help to reduce internal friction, boosting economy. A water-cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system helps to ensure the lowest possible emissions at all vehicle speeds and contributes to fuel efficiency. By cooling and controlling exhaust gas injected into each cylinder, the system eliminates the need to richen the air-fuel mixture to control cylinder temperatures.
In pursuit of ultimate efficiency, there are situations in which the gas engine in the Camry Hybrid shuts off for electric propulsion, and air conditioning and power steering systems are driven electrically. The proven nickel-metal-hydride battery, located in the trunk area, features enhanced air-cooling. Its compact size, along with locating the DC/DC converter within the engine compartment, results in a trunk that is 2.1-cubic feet larger than in the previous-generation Camry Hybrid.
Regenerative braking in the Camry Hybrid converts the electric motor to a generator that captures the kinetic energy from the still-turning wheels when the brake is applied, storing it in the hybrid battery pack. Putting the shifter into “B” uses the system as a form of engine braking for enhanced control on steep descents. Hill-start assist control helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting off on an incline when the brake pedal is released.
A Hybrid-exclusive instrument cluster with Hybrid System Indicator and fuel consumption indicator helps the driver to operate the car as economically as possible. Instantaneous fuel economy is shown with LEDs (light emitting diodes) around the outside of the average fuel economy gauge. The car’s Multi-Information display graphically shows fuel economy in real time and can also show energy flow and cruising range information.
Hybrid-exclusive trim is used on the instrument panel and door switch bases, upper console panels and shift knob. The Camry Hybrid also features its own exclusive seat fabric in ivory or light gray, and an exclusive leather-trimmed and Ultrasuede is also available.
