    Hi All:

The 2019 RAM 1500 eToruqe recently earned the 2019 Green Truck of the Year by Green Car Journal at the 50th annual San Antonio Auto & Truck Show in San Antonio, Texas.

The eTorque mild hybrid system is one of several changes made to the 2019 Ram 1500, including upgraded TorqueFlite 8-speed AT, strategic weight reductions and aero improvements.

The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 leads the full-size truck segment with the most safety and security features and now delivers significant gains in fuel efficiency with an all-new eTorque system in both V6 and V8 configurations. Overall weight for the Ram 1500 has been reduced by 225 pounds. As the truck’s backbone, the frame uses advanced materials and engineering to eliminate 100 pounds while increasing stiffness and durability for 12,750 pounds of towing capability and 2,300 pounds of payload. The new Uconnect 4C with a 12-inch touchscreen leads the pickup world with technology, featuring split-screen capability, 360-degree camera views and exclusive content from SiriusXM with 360L. Active safety and security systems join the technology onslaught with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and Blind-spot Monitoring.

The 2019 Ram 1500 has a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $31,695 plus $1,645 destination fee. I have seen mid-trim 2019 RAM 1500 Longhorn Crewcabs with $10k+ off the sticker a well.

Personally I would wait for the EcoDiesel to be inserted as that is the full size pickup truck fuel saver.

3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque – Another Wards 10 Best Engines

For the second year in a row, the 305 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque 3.6L Pentastar V6 eTorque mated to that smooth shifting 8-speed AT in the Ram 1500 pickup has been named as one of Wards 10 Best Engines.

The eTorque mild-hybrid system replaces the traditional alternator on the engine with a belt-driven motor generator unit that performs several functions. The motor generator works with a 48-volt battery pack to enable improved fuel efficiency, drivability, performance and value. Six different modes of operation include quick, seamless stop-start functions and energy recovery with brake regeneration used to support increases in towing capacity and payload.

eTorque provides up to 90 lb.-ft. of supplemental torque to the engine crankshaft during stop-start maneuvers. Torque to the wheels travels within 400 milliseconds, more than twice as fast as many starter-motor-actuated engine stop-start systems.

The 2020 Ram 1500 with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and eTorque is rated at 20/25/22 and 19/24/22 mpgUS city/highway/combined in RWD/4WD configuration.

The drivetrain is also available in the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara four-door.

With the engine running, eTorque’s motor generator supplies 48-volt current to a 430 Wh lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt (NMC)-graphite battery. The battery pack includes a 3-kW DC-to-DC converter to maintain the battery’s state of charge and converts 48 volts to 12 volts to power the Ram 1500’s accessories and charge its conventional 12-volt Pb-acid battery.

In addition to spinning the engine for restarts to help launch the vehicle, eTorque also recaptures energy during deceleration and braking to charge the battery pack. eTorque also enhances the driving experience by adding torque to the crankshaft during gear changes to minimize noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
