Kia June 2016 Sales Up 15.6% with 62,572 Vehicles Sold

    Kia June 2016 Sales Overview

    Kia announced that it sold 62,572 vehicles in June, up 15.6 percent over the 54,137 sold in June of 2015. Within that result, this was the fifth monthly sales record in six months.

    YTD sales of 328,327 were up 5.6 percent over the 310,952 sold through the first 6-month period of 2015. It was the brand best quarter and half-year performances in company history.

    Kia June 2016 Sales Highlights


    The Sportage achieved sales of 8,549, up 140.8 percent over the 3,550 sold in June of 2015. YTD sales of 42,229 vehicles was up 76.3 percent over the 23,955 sold during the first 6-months of 2015.


    Market Share Detail


    In June, VW market share was down a significant 0.5 percent from its previous 2.1 percent share. This is expected given the TDI emissions problems revealed last fall.

    Nissan share was up an eye opening 0.9 percent while Toyota was down the same. Ford was up 0.6 percent while GM was down 0.7 percent vs June of 2015.

    On a volume basis, June of 2016 US Auto sales of 1.51 million vehicles was up 2.7 percent over June of 2015s 1.47 million vehicles result.

    2016 YTD sales of 8.59 million is up 1.1 percent ahead of the 8.59 million vehicles sold through the same period of 2015.

    In June, FCA moved within 1,250 vehicles of overtaking Toyota for the 3rd position, Nissan overtook Honda for the 5th spot and Mazda overtook VW for the first time to occupy the 12th spot.

    The seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) for light vehicles in June was approximately 17.0 million vehicles. Calendar-year-to-date, the light vehicle SAAR was 17.3 million vehicles.

    Kia’s June 2016 global sales figures (export sales, domestic sales and sales from overseas plants) for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs) and commercial vehicles, reached a total of 268,886 vehicles sold, up 11.4 percent over the results achieved in June of 2015.


    China, Kia achieved June sales of 45,942 vehicles, up 17.4 percent.
    Korea market experienced sales of 52,506 vehicles, up 16.7 percent.
    North America experienced sales of 70,112 vehicles, up 15.4 percent.
    Western Europe experienced sales of 41,412 vehicles, up 13.9 percent.
    Other markets experienced sales 43,713 0.4 percent.

    Cumulatively through the first half of 2016, Kia achieved its best-ever first half global sales of 1,470,822 vehicles up 2.3 percent over the Global sales achieved through the first 6-months of 2015.

    The first 6 months of 2016 breakdown look like this:

    Western Europe, 307,742 vehicles sold, up 14.8 percent
    Korea, 276,750 vehicles sold, up 14.1 percent
    North America 364,645 vehicles sold, up 5.2 percent

    Kia did not provide a 6-month sale breakout for China.

    Kia's bestselling model in overseas markets during June 2016 was the Sportage compact CUV with 50,076 vehicles sold. The B-segment Rio ('K2' in China) was the second best seller with 40,647 vehicles sold, while the C-segment Cerato (Known as ‘Forte’ or ‘K3’), Soul urban crossover and Sorento midsized CUV followed with 31,263, 18,432 and 16,560 vehicles sold, respectively.
