2014 Toyota Prius PHEV-11 – Toyota’s most fuel efficient offering starts at $30,800 while providing customers 51/49 mpgUS city/highway on gasoline and 11 miles electric range.

The Prius PHEV combines the benefits of the standard Prius with extended electric vehicle (EV) driving from its 4.4 kWh Li-ion pack. Even with the addition of the new onboard battery charging system and larger 176-lb. Li-ion pack, the Prius PHEV-11 weighs just 123 lbs. more than the standard Prius Liftback.

Home charging using a standard 120V AC outlet takes less than 3-hours and less than an hour on a Level2 240V charger. The included 120v charging cable connects to the charging port inlet located on the right-rear fender.

The Prius PHEV arrives with standard Entune, Smartkey for 3 doors, and a software based NAVI to name but a few features of this Package III/IV equipped vehicle.

Sorry for being grumpy, but I've moved on from Toyota and their hybrids. I just got 198 miles per gallon driving home 18 miles in my Ford Energi Cmax PHEV in 20° weather. I traded my 2012 Prius in, so I can wait until Toyota steps up with some real creature comforts in their new models. I'll go back and look at them later this year.

I owned both a Cmax and the Prius side by side for over a year so I could a good comparison.

I've owned my Prius coming up on four and half years and zero complaints. Could it be more luxurious, sure but I want a reliable car that will last me a minimum 150K miles, not to make a financial statement.

I had a 2010 Prius for three years and a 2012 Prius for 1 year. I wanted gas milage. I had no problems. Now I wanted a PHEV and they don't sell them here. When they sell them here, I'll come look. I still recommend the Prius if you just want a hybrid.

It seems Toyota took a little breather and the Prius is now a 5 year old design and it will take at least another year before we see the redesign. It's still the FE leader but gap is narrowing and competitors improved other aspects like ride and comfort.

The Camry Hybrid is in worse shape against competition but no redesign at least for another 2-3 years. Then again they are still selling extremely well considering that so I guess they are not worried at this point but long-term I think they need to step up again their efforts if they don't want slow decline in their sales which can hurt them much longer.

After 4 years, 1 month and 62,000 miles in 2010 Prius, I have changed the oil 5 times (6th now due), changed the wiper inserts once, changed the ATF WS fluid once, changed the engine and cabin air filters once each, and will have to replace the OEM Ecopia EP20 tires this year. 51 mpg lifetime actual. Brake pads like new.

Of all the cars I've owned, this is the one I'm most satisfied with. Looking at trading for the next gen PiP when available. Like CmaxVsPrius, I wish they would offer the PiP in the great interior of this country.

Over on another Prius forum, there's a dealer in CA that is willing to ship vehicles. Granted, you won't get to sit in it, drive it, etc, unless you go out there, but she's had very high reviews from almost everyone on there that's dealt with her.

I have no input either way, as I got mine in NJ. However, that may be another venue for folks in states where they aren't sold yet.

My 2002 was totalled at 349,531 miles and had the original hybrid battery. My 2005 prius was totalled on 2/10/13 with 336,100 miles on the same batteries. My 2010 now has 91k miles up from 42k. So far so good and I hope to hit 400k this time around.

I've e-mailed with Dianne, and would do business with her. However, it is $800 to ship here. Thus far I have opted to wait, but it is a viable option.

    Hi All:

$800 or more to ship it? BS! Fly in, get on a bus to the dealership, and drive home. While in California or the East Coast, make it a vacation in your brand new 14 Prius PHEV-11 if you are interested. It drives no different than a Prius, is packaged up between a III and IV, and with the giveaways, is less than the base Prius.

The SW NAVI is low rent all the way (wish it had Bringgo instead), the display is super low rent and washes out in any sun, the interior is also low rent with cheap IP. and the ergonomics for taller drivers is not that great either.

I however am biased to its use since I purchased one in this matter earlier this year.

The 15 is nearing our shores however and it will have the nicer Auris like interior and independent suspension and 15 to 20-mile pack. Toyota will have to price it similarly as the current PHEV or it will not sell either.

California, unlike many states, will not let you take delivery without paying sales tax, and the rate translates to more than 800 MORE than my local sales tax in Kansas. I got as far as planning a family trip to the Grand Canyon, beginning in LA with a PiP, but it just never quite happened.

I am now waiting on the next generation. If I'm going to pay for upscale options I don't NEED and am willing to live without, it would be best if they were a big improvement over the ones I've had for over 4 years.

    Hi Ksstathead:

Buy from NY or anywhere else. You pay your states tax, not the state sales tax of the state you purchased it from. You should never pay $800 more as that is far more than the cost of a vacation for most.

I've had a 2010 Prius III for almost four years. It has been te most fuel efficiency car I've ever owned. But what's really nice about owning a Prius is all the help I have received from other Prius owners-drivers on this forum, priuschat.com, and the Yahoo! groups on all aspects of the car. I've learn the hard way that when adapting and learning newer technologies - numbers do count - especially if the thing you are counting are the experienced-skilled users/experts in a supportive and intelligent user-owner group.

    Hi All:

I updated the tables in the OP through September of 2014. Here is the official 7 Million Hybrids sold announcement…

Recent million-unit milestone achieved in record time

Toyota announced that its global hybrid sales surpassed the 7 million unit mark in September. Toyota achieved this latest million-unit hybrid milestone at the record pace of nine months.

Including hybrid vehicles launched this year, Toyota will introduce a total of 15 new hybrids globally through 2015. Hybrids launched this year comprise the Voxy Hybrid and Noah Hybrid in Japan (January), and the Lexus NX 300h (July). This month Toyota will introduce the Lexus RC 300h. Toyota plans to continue expanding its hybrid lineup and increase the number of countries and regions where it sells hybrid vehicles.

Today Toyota sells 27 different hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in more than 90 countries and regions. In the U.S., Toyota and Lexus offer 12 hybrid models and one plug-in model, which account for 70 percent of industry hybrid sales.

In 2000, Toyota introduced its Prius hybrid to the U.S., a marquee vehicle that established mainstream adoption of hybrid technology. Today, Toyota and Lexus hybrid sales in the U.S. are well over 2 million, and the Prius is on its way to becoming the no. 1 selling vehicle in California for the third year in a row.

To date Toyota hybrid vehicles have saved 4.75B gallons of gasoline than would have been emitted or used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance.

Although Toyota provides consumers a portfolio of options, hybrids will remain its core sales technology.

Toyota Surpasses 8 Million Hybrids Sold!

    Hi All:

In another cool release from Toyota Corporate, the current Toyota Chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, loves to tell the tell the story of how his team couldn't get the first Prius prototype to move for 49 days.

That was back in 1995, when hybrid cars were unproven, experimental machines with a very unclear future. Fast-forward twenty years, and Toyota is proud to announce that it has now sold over 8 million hybrid vehicles, with just 10 months between this and the last million-unit milestone.

Toyota calculates that as of July 31, its hybrid vehicles have resulted in approximately 58 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions than would have been emitted by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 5.8 billion US Gallons of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar sizes.

Since the launch of the Prius in 1997 in Japan, Toyota has been gradually adding hybrid models throughout its range, from the compact Yaris Hybrid to the recently announced RAV4 Hybrid. As of this month, Toyota sells 30 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in more than 90 markets.

Over just the past year, Toyota has made several new hybrid models available, including the Esquire Hybrid (Japan only), the Lexus RC300h, and the recently launched Sienta Hybrid. Other new hybrid models are just around the corner, such as the Corolla Hybrid and Levin Hybrid (China only) and RAV4 Hybrid. This ongoing roll-out will continue, with new hybrid models being added to Toyota's range and sold in more markets than ever before.

Hybrid technologies, which encompass all of the component technologies necessary for the development of FCV and BEVs, will facilitate the use of different fuel combinations and position Toyota as a global automotive leader well into the twenty-first century. Using these technologies.

Toyota aims to enhance performance, reduce costs, and expand its product lineup with each iteration and so far, they have done a pretty damn good job at doing just that.

    HI All:

Just three years and another 4 million have been sold!

Toyota has now achieved more than 10 million cumulative hybrid vehicle (HV) sales, including PHEVs, as of January 31. The latest milestone was achieved just nine months after total sales reached 9 million units at the end of April 2016.

Toyota Motor North America also saw its sales of hybrids and PHEVs reach a cumulative total, exceeding three million units as of December 31, 2016.

    10,000,000 and counting...

Takeshi Uchiyamada, known as the father of the Prius and co-chairman of the Board of Directors at Toyota:
As of January 31, Toyota estimates that the use of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles, as an alternative to conventional gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance has resulted in approximately 77 million fewer tons of CO2 emissions and has saved approximately 7.66 billion gallons of gasoline.

More than a numerical milestone, the results demonstrate the staying power of hybrid powertrain technology, which has emerged as a mainstream solution to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. Toyota values activities to help reduce the environmental effects of automobiles. This achievement builds on the belief that widespread adoption of more environmentally-friendly vehicles can make a significant positive impact worldwide.
