Of course, you've already done Chicago to NYC in a Prius on one tank if I remember correctly.

    Hi Rich:

I can bet the 2014 A6 TDI could master Chicago to Boston, Boston through NY City to almost Atlanta, Atlanta to Houston, Houston to Phoenix, Phoenix to Vegas to Denver, and Denver back to Chicago pulling (6) 1000 mile tanks in succession in < 10 days with a single driver? Now that would a challenge! ;)

But are you challenging the driver or the car? :)

    Hi Bill:

Good point. Driver only as the 2014 Audi A6 TDI would breeze through that like a hot knife through warm butter! ;) Ok, maybe not a warm knife as it is 50 mpg we are talking about but probably not that much of a hurdle.

Yesterday I looked up the non-adjusted EPA highway of the 2014 Audi A6 TDI and it was 52 mpgUS so it would be a stretch.

So you're basically looking forward to a sponsored week's vacation in a luxury
    automobile. Nice!

re: stretch - If time factor allowed slower highway speeds, why not? And so
much coasting possible out there. And then there's the likely driver. With the
energy content advantage of diesel over gasoline, I'd expect you'd make 50mpg
avg easily. :) I'd still cheer you on.

Of course, given the 'stretch' goal, that would make it more interesting for the
    sponsors.

    Cheers,
    Bill

    Hi Bill:

I was just thinking out loud ;) I am not going to propose this to Audi as they are busy in preps for the upcoming auto show season.

    Would be fun though!

Oh well... you (should) know I live vicariously through you.

Good luck with the show season. I'm sure you'll be very busy, too.

Audi A7 TDI or Tesla Model S85. Which would you take? Before this trip I would have chosen a Tesla. After, it would be a toss up. Now, having driven my mini-Tesla (C-max Energi) for 620 EV miles, and factoring in the slightly neg press of recent battery damage fires, I'm leaning toward the A7 TDI.

The A7 was just such a smooth quiet powerful car to drive, it might well have been running a 400 hp electric drive. And we went 620 miles before even thinking about stopping to refuel. That is so much more convenient than finding a supercharger every 200 miles. And with the load we were carrying and the speeds we were running, 200 miles may have been a stretch. Plus, are the superchargers at nice Shell gas stations a stones throw from the freeway exit and loaded with snacks and a bathroom?

Though, think of all the bread we could have fit in the frunk.

I think I need both cars for an extended comparison period. :)

I am still surprised at how powerful these vehicles are, yet how easy it was to achieve phenomenol fuel economy. I will admit, if I owned one of the two cars the hooligan in me would have to surface every once in a while.

The hooligan will surface during a DPF regen. My Passat pulls a lot harder when the DPF is regenerating, and the car even urges you to downshift at speeds where the higher gear is normally fine. I don't know if a cop would buy the excuse that's why I'm going 90 on the expressway or not.

Downshifting ? In a diesel ? In the Audi TDI's , we got up unto 8th gear at 25 MPH and it NEVER downshifted. Of course, I have been known to exaggerate once in a while.

John , that's what motorcycles are for !

I guarantee you could power a Model S for 5,000+ miles for the same as the cost of the first major service interval in an A7.

It's hard to put a price on a car that needs no maintenance.

    Hi Rich:

I have not heard of an Audi being bricked yet but maybe someday? Whereas the Tesla's... Let us just say they have their share of issues. ;)

While in the Phoenix area today, I came across this recently built Audi dealership. The high tech cool facade is the same as that on Audi of Pacific. I spoke with an employee about the dealership and he said they opened up as a brand new site just 3 years ago. Have to hand it to Audi. Their cars are cool looking and loaded with tech and so are the dealerships.

I completely agree! Motorcycles are great to let one's inner hooligan come out and play.

    Hi All:

The Audi vids just keep on coming.

While not exactly what we experienced, the capability of quattro AWD still shines through. You will have to watch this to the end to get it but you get the picture. ;)

That's hilarious, but unless he has a skid plate the first roadside junk he runs over like an old muffler is going to rip the oil pan off.

I assume that deep snow the Audi is blasting thru is on the shoulder , so it's probably flat and free of debris. Still , pretty impressive. Reminds me of my buddy blasting thru snow drifts in his 73 Toronado. When you have 9000 lbs over the front wheels , who needs AWD , lol ?

But............. quite often , what you see in this video results in SUV's getting stuck in a much nastier place. We've all seen them in those situations.
