Mazda SkyActiv - SkyActiv is the (catchy) name for Mazda's technologies to improve efficiency of vehicles: high-compression gasoline, low-compression diesel, improved automatic and manual transmissions, lighter body and chassis. The low-compression diesel is potentially the most exciting development as Mazda promises a cleaner-burning, more efficient engine that can be lighter than conventional diesels and meet emissions standards with less burdensome filters. The CX-5 Crossover, to be launched in September and introduced early in 2012 will be the first Mazda to feature the full set of improvements in gasoline engine, transmission and body.

Mazda reported August sales of 22,632 vehicles, up 14.7 percent versus August of 2010. Year-to-date sales are up 6.1 percent versus last year with 165,794 vehicles sold.

    Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda5

The Mazda2 had best-yet monthly sales of 1,387 vehicles, an increase of 195.7 percent compared to August 2010.

    The Mazda3 sold 9,424 vehicles, a 4.0 percent increase.

The Mazda5 multi-activity vehicle (that's Mazda-speak for wagon) posted a 15.7 percent increase with monthly sales of 1,326 vehicles. On the year, Mazda5 sales are up 21.6 percent.

Mazda's CX-7 and CX-9 crossover SUVs reported increases of 58.7 percent and 0.8 percent respectively. On the year, CX-7 sales are up 26.2 percent while CX-9 is up 11.2 percent.
