Thanks Sean I can't imagine how the Fusion Hybrid will do with an improved drivetrain and battery. The EPA 41 city and 36 highway rating may make these Economy Runs hard on Toyota and Honda. Even the 2010 gas version Fusion 6 speed automatic can be flat towed so we know what that means. GaryG
Looks like my tank will run dry just at the end of the month. Not as good as the last tank, but it looks like am am within 5 - 10 miles at the half-way point. Larry
Thanks Andrew This must be the first time the FEH has been entered in the Fuel Economy Run so I hope it makes the other Ford SUV Escape owner's proud. I'm working on my last tank for this quarter run and it should raise my average a bit. I've got over 7,000 miles on the original factory break-in oil and have some Mobil 1 5-20W oil and a Motorcraft oil filter ready for a change for the next Run. Wish I could find some straight 87 octane gas but E10 is the only thing available here in Florida now. GaryG
I just added three tanks to my run. I'm happy with the Matrix, I really don't have to try hard or use much hypermiling techniques other than dfco and obviously benifical coasting in neutral where appropriate. I spend so little time at the pump I scramble around to record my mileage, and it's a real bummer when the printer runs out of paper. So I just fished through my wallet and found my records.
My next run will not have a sg....I will put my spring wheels on, less sticky than my winters, this should help.
Filled the last tank for the run yesterday. Actually more than one filling. It was about 542 miles on 18.471 Gallons. It could have been better if I did not have to make high speed chase to Normal from home. The speeds at which I was going are unmentionable for a hypermiler. BUT on the way home I did manage 35.9 MPG over 139 miles. :woot:
Posted my last tank for the challenge: 695.8 miles at 61.7mpg. Didn't quite make it, but I have to say, this was my best winter yet. Only once did I dip into the 50's and that was a 59.6 in Nov.(go figure) :cconfused: Looking forward to warmer temps and higher numbers.
My last tank of the run! Not as good as my last tank, but I really can't complain as it was only off by 0.124, but who's coutning I would never believe I could do this in the middle of winter. I complained in October when the days got shorter that I couldn't FAS P&G at night because my battery ran down. Well, I found a way to do it and hold my SOC until I got home and plug in. Here is the trick for anyone who wants to try it. It is really TOO simple. During your pulse, hold the LOD at the 70 end of the 70's range instead of the 79 end! I learned to steady up to the point of holding it between 68 and 71. This gives you enough time on the pulse to charge the battery for the next glide. Worked for me. Anyway 589.6 miles on 9.10 gal = 64.756 mpg! Woohoo, Larry
Another one of the tricks a hybrid eleminates for you, sounds good though. Mine charges when it wants and how it wants and there's nothing I can do to help it along, but I can retard it, (don't know why I'd want to reFAS when the reason for starting was to charge b/c the headlights have drained her) I'll be tanking up after work in about 15 hours to round out the month and the 3 months, can't wait for stock electrics so I can be one of the first in that arena. Is the system set up for that yet?
I think I have distance covered by a long shot, other than Wayne, Justin, and Jennie for this season. For sheer number of Fills I give that to Josh, Red Bull, or Yarisman (not ragging on you, but I was looking b/c I thought I had that one too )
Hi Jess You have some problems with your tank listings and not showing up in the in the Fuel Economy Run IV listing in the mileage Log. You did not include your first tank in December and I see your Hybrid is also listed in the Gas Vehicles and the Hybrid Section. I would add your first December tank and post a link here of your Hybrid Mileage Log of just those tanks from December 1 till Feb. 28th to get properly in the Run IV. The instructions are clear in the very first post in this thread. You need to create a new mileage Log for this and post a link here for the Moderators to put you in Run IV. You have great numbers! Good Luck GaryG
It appears Jess got his RunIV gas log transferred to the Gas Vehicle Section and not the RunIV Section by mistake. GaryG
I updated it. If the owner changes anything on the description it will revert to the gas section by default.
Filled at 23:28 on 2/28/09 on my way back home. Sold an FSP, but the customer is interested in learning how to hypermile it. We did also keep the size of the vehicle and engine way down from the one desired originally. I put out an Element instead of a Pilot. I'll take a 2.4 over a 3.5 V6 in our lineup any day. They needed the utility and that's what we came up with to meet the need and save on gas costs compared to the last vehicle.
I remember seeing my listing in the mileage log in December, then it disappeared. I don't recall doing anything any different. Wait.. I do remember updating the EPA ratings to the 2008 from the 2006. Maybe that did it. Is everything cool now? Anything I should do? Thanks for the compliment on the numbers, Gary. Your numbers are excellent!
They have to be manually updated. They were current as of Friday. Final results will be coming soon, too.
